For as long as I’ve been working in software engineering, and long before that, there has and probably always will be a disconnect between management and tech. The disconnect occurs because business managers and technology managers each speak their own language and the functions of their departments are different in many ways. Recovering From The Computer Crash
A coworker and good friend of mine has a great quote. It goes something like this… “There are two types of system administrators, those who make backups and those who haven’t lost data yet.” I’m no systems administrator but I am wise enough to make backups. Currently, I’m backing up my home pc to an external hard drive. This method is probably the most cost efficient method for backups. However, what if the house caught on fire? Then the external backup would go up in flames with the pc. Thus, I’m considering online backups using a service such as Carbonite or Mozy Online Backup. Another option is to write a script that runs on a scheduled task that backs everything up to one of my hosted servers in the cloud. If you have any suggestions then please leave a comment.
